our facilities

Grange Road Kindergarten prides itself on both its indoor and outdoor facilities.  We are fortunate to have spacious and appealing indoor and outdoor areas that are forever evolving.

Our indoor area comprises of two rooms with an adjoining foyer that allows natural light to permeate through the area.  The foyer is the central point of the Kindergarten where information and communication is shared with the family community and is a welcoming area for all our wonderful children as they enter to start their day

Our outdoor area focuses on our beautiful native trees & vegetation and large UV protective sail that provides an abundance of shade in our large private and peaceful garden. We have a large range of climbing structures, a sand play area, a sensory garden, a vegetable patch, a mud pit and two large covered verandas. Our watering system is a tank system which helps maintain the garden throughout the year.

Grange Road Kindergarten believes that environmental education needs to start at any early age with hands-on experience with nature. There is considerable evidence that “concern for the environment is based on an affection for nature that only develops with autonomous, unmediated contact with it”, hence why we support all of our programmes with a large amount of free access to our large garden area.

Studies have provided evidence that the way we feel in pleasing natural environments improves:

    1. recall of information
    2. creative problem solving
    3. creativity
    4. the development of imagination and the sense of wonder.

We have found that children’s outdoor play is different from time spent indoors. The sensory experiences are different, and different standards of play apply. Children have greater freedom not only to run, climb and shout, but also to interact with and manipulate the environment. Plants, together with soil, sand, and water, provide settings that have an endless supply of complex activities. They can build a trench in the sand and dirt or a rock dam over a stream, all of these provide for open-ended play that emphasizes unstructured exploration with numerous types of materials. All of which we support on a daily basis. Make sure you pack old clothes; the mud pit is one of their favourite areas.
